Artist's Description

Cattle Point Lighthouse was built by the US Coast Guard in 1935 to guide ships transiting the Inner Passage of the Strait of Juan de Fuca from the Pacific into Puget Sound.

One of the iconic images of the San Juan Islands, it was added to the San Juan Islands National Monument in 2013. The point was named after the Hudson's Bay Company established a ranch here in 1853.

It is a great location to catch sunrise; on clear days offering views of the Olympic Mountains to the Southwest, Mt Baker and the North Cascades to the northeast, and Mt Rainier, southeast of Seattle.

On this early summer day, however, I was simply able to capture some of the colors from a cloudy sunrise.

About ProPeak Photography

ProPeak Photography

My goal has always been to capture moments that inspire me so that I can share them with others. I have been fortunate to have several selections of my work recognized in print and in competition. I am predominantly drawn to images of beautiful landscapes, glorious sunrises and sunsets, impressive cities, impressive architecture and feats of engineering, and awe-inspiring nature. I try to remain faithful to the moments I have experienced, with only 'natural' enhancements in post-processing, though you will also find monochromatic images here. I hope that the moments I share here speak to you. I am open to suggestions, ideas, and feedback you might have about future content offerings. Dan
