Thank you for the feature, Judy!

Artist's Description

An exceptionally rainy day in Northern California broke minutes before sunset, creating dramatic skies over the Pacific and an exceptional opportunity to capture this historic lighthouse.

One of the first lighthouses along the California coast, Battery Point served as an active aid to navigation from 1856 until 1965, when it was decommissioned. In 1964, prior to decommissioning, the lighthouse and its keepers survived a tsunami caused by the Good Friday earthquake in Alaska - the second most powerful earthquake recorded in world history - which devastated Crescent City.

In 1982, the light was relit, and it remains listed as a private aid to navigation.

About ProPeak Photography

ProPeak Photography

My goal has always been to capture moments that inspire me so that I can share them with others. I have been fortunate to have several selections of my work recognized in print and in competition. I am predominantly drawn to images of beautiful landscapes, glorious sunrises and sunsets, impressive cities, impressive architecture and feats of engineering, and awe-inspiring nature. I try to remain faithful to the moments I have experienced, with only 'natural' enhancements in post-processing, though you will also find monochromatic images here. I hope that the moments I share here speak to you. I am open to suggestions, ideas, and feedback you might have about future content offerings. Dan
