You're walking around Balboa Park, the site that was transformed for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 and you see this magnificent, imposing statue of a warrior on horseback amid the central point for foot and vehicular traffic, so it must be Balboa, right?

No. This is El Cid Campeador, the Castilian nobleman, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. An 11th century Spanish folk hero, who eventually became ruler of independent Valencia, along the Mediterranean Spanish coast. El Cid is Moorish for The Lord, and El Campeador is Spanish for Outstanding Warrior.

Dedicated on July 5th, 1930, the 23' bronze statue in Balboa park of El Cid on his warhorse, Babieca, is a replica of the Anna Hyatt Huntington sculpture located at the Hispanic Society of America in New York City.

My goal has always been to capture moments that inspire me so that I can share them with others. I have been fortunate to have several selections of my work recognized in print and in competition. I am predominantly drawn to images of beautiful landscapes, glorious sunrises and sunsets, impressive cities, impressive architecture and feats of engineering, and awe-inspiring nature. I try to remain faithful to the moments I have experienced, with only 'natural' enhancements in post-processing, though you will also find monochromatic images here.
